Stephanie to spend two weeks volunteering in Africa!
The letter from Stephanie below explains why she chose to volunteer in Africa.
Hello friends! I've been away from Guiding Light for about three months now (gasp!), and I miss it like crazy. However, I'm coming up with new ways to occupy my time these days. I've been auditioning A LOT, looking for that next job, and I've enjoyed having some time to relax and think about my life and my goals.
All this thinking about my life and what's important to me has led me to realize that it's time to tackle one of my long-time goals: taking a trip to Africa to do volunteer work. I've had my eye on this volunteer program, through "Cross-Cultural Solutions," for years now, and I'm finally free to give three weeks of my time for a good cause. The spirit of the whole "Find Your Light" thing, and our recent trip to Biloxi, really reminded me of how passionate I am about this goal.
So, in October, I'll be heading to the Kilimajaro region of Tanzania to work with a local volunteer organization there. I haven't been given a specific assignment yet, but I am hoping to spend my time working with children, either in a school or in an orphanage. I expect the experience to be life-changing. I think it's important to help our global neighbors, but I also think it's important to learn first-hand about other cultures, and to then share our experiences with people at home, so that we can all begin to feel like members of a global community.
There is a significant fee to participate in this program through Cross-Cultural Solutions. (The fee covers the cost of housing and food during my stay, and also funds CCS and their general costs of operation.) I hope you will consider making a TAX-DEDUCTIBLE donation to my program fee.
